The Department of Education and The Albani J. Beauregard Center for Equity, Justice, and Freedom collaboratively present: Womxn in the Academy: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Virtual Speaker Series 2021-22. This year’s theme is organized around the work, experiences, and perspectives of educators and students from a range of backgrounds and stages here at UNH. In a time of growing adversity, and in recognition of the work that needs to be done, we hope to create a safe space in which educators and students can talk about difficult topics impacting their experiences in the academy. Starting dialogues about uncomfortable topics is often challenging, yet these dialogues offer a path to understanding the diverse ways in which we all experience learning, development, and being human. Through these connections and understanding we can all move toward more accessible and equitable educational experiences. Our first speaker will be Dr. Caché Owens-Velásquez on October 22nd, 2021, from 12:10 – 1:00 p.m. Dr. Owens-Velásquez is the director of The Beauregard Center and offers experience in university-community partnerships, teaching, and community-based action research. As a queer woman of color, Dr. Owens-Velásquez’s marginalized identities have informed her work within the academy. Caché’s research interests lie at the intersections of race, education, disability justice, fat liberation and community organizing. The speaker series takes place via zoom at  https://unh.zoom.us/j/98042146580.
