Her earliest work in European comparative history, often with an eye toward Belgium, was supported by two Fulbright Research grants, the first in 1985-86 and the second in 1996. Her most recent book, Revolutions without Borders. The Call to Liberty in the Atlantic World, published by Yale University Press in 2015, focused on the travelling revolutionaries who not only connected revolutions on four continents, but asked impertinent questions. She is currently writing a book on political refugees, their networks and the nations that offer asylum.
