The UNH Symphony Orchestra will present its first performance of the 2019-2020 season with a concert that features the orchestral works of Vaclav Nelhybel, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this September. Maestro Nelhybel immigrated to the United States in 1957 and became an important figure in American music education, writing for all levels of orchestras, bands, choirs, and chamber music. Dr. David Upham will lead the orchestra in three Nelhybel works: Music for Orchestra, Con brio, and Danza. Graduate conducting student Aban Zirikly will conduct Sibelius’s Valse triste, and the performance will end with selections from Holst’s suite, The Planets.
