SMSOE Seminar Series: Building Ecological Resilience in Estuaries:  A NH/ME Case Study of a global challenge

Many coastal communities are working hard to implement management improvements aimed at protecting or helping to restore estuarine ecosystem health. Emerging research from around the world offers new evidence that a broader "resilience" framework may be necessary to formulate recovery strategies. This work also highlights the difficulties of managing complex ecosystems and the challenge of better understanding the reality of how estuarine ecosystems actually resist and recover, especially in a context of multiple and compounding stressors. Featuring the following topics and speakers:

Estuarine Stress and Resilience: What Do We Do Do About It? , presented by Dr. Kalle Matso, Coastal Science Program Manager, Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership
Tidal-Marsh Birds as Indicators of Saltmarsh Ecosystem Health, presented by Dr. Adrienne Kovach, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment
The Role of Oyster Reefs in Promoting Ecological Resilience, presented by Dr. Alix LaFerriere, New Hampshire Coastal and Marine Director, The Nature Conservancy
