Host: Research Development Office
Presenters: Matt MacManes, Assistant Professor, Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences; Lynnette Hentges, Senior Associate, Research Development Office
Audience: Faculty, Researchers, Staff, and Students
Abstract: This session is an opportunity to hear from a UNH researcher
who has obtained funding through the new National Institutes of Health
(NIH)/National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Maximizing
Investigators' Research Award (MIRA) program, which is implemented
through the R35 mechanism. Rather than funding a specific project, MIRA
provides 5 years of support for the research in an investigator's laboratory
that falls within the mission of NIGMS. The goal of MIRA is to increase the
efficiency of NIGMS funding by providing investigators with greater stability
and flexibility, thereby enhancing scientific productivity and the chances for
important breakthroughs. Dr. MacManes will talk about his experiences applying
for and managing his MIRA award. Also, RDO assistance and resources available
to help investigators prepare competitive R35 applications will be discussed.
