What is the relevance of the humanities in public life today? Why do the humanities matter to our collective challenges, opportunities, and well-being? How can humanists focus their work toward public issues?

Former National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman William D. Adams will discuss NEH’s public humanities work and the ways in which humanists at colleges and universities can bring their perspectives and insights to bear on public life in the United States in these challenging times.

Adams was appointed chairman of NEH by President Barack Obama in 2014. Prior to serving at NEH, he was president of Colby College from 2000-2014 and president of Bucknell University from 1995-2000. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in New York.

This event is co-sponsored by the UNH Library and UNH College of Liberal Arts.
