"The Dilemma of Typhoid Mary: Personal LIberty v. the Public's Health" is part of the 2013-2014 Saul O Sidore Memorial Lecture Series.  The theme for the year is "Your Liberty or Your Health" focusing on the intersection of public health, personal liberty, and governmental authority.  This lecture will focus on the quarantines and other aspects of this debate using Typhoid Mary as an historical example.  Judith Walzer Leavitt, the Rupple Bascom and Ruth Bleier Professor Emerita, Medical History, History of Science, and Gender and Women’s Studies, University of Wisconsin at Madison, will present the lecture and will answer questions.

On November 13, 2013, Jose Montero, Medical Director, New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health Services and President of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials will focus on quarantine and other issues by addressing a more contemporary topic, SARS.

The UNH community and the public are welcome.

Please contact Molly Dorsey (Marion.Girard.Dorsey@unh.edu) or Rosemary Caron (rosemary.caron@unh.edu) if you would like additional information.
