UNH Music Faculty Concert Series: Trio Sospiri
Sospiri January 12, 2013 2 p.m. Johnson Theatre On January 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Johnson Theatre in Paul Creative Arts Center on the Durham, NH campus of the University of New Hampshire, UNH Faculty trio, Sospiri; Margaret Herlehy, oboe; Janet Polk, bassoon; and Arlene Kies, piano; will present a concert entitled-- “Stolen Gems, new and old”. The center piece of this program is Trio in A Minor op. 114 by Johannes Brahms. Originally for clarinet, cello and piano, Sospiri, creates a convincing and soul-satisfying version for oboe, bassoon and piano. Brazilian composer, Ernst Mahle’s Trio (1970) for oboe, cello and piano arranged for oboe, bassoon and piano provides a very different perspective on music for this ensemble. Rounding out the program will be a tuneful and toe-tapping creation by UNH faculty composer, Christopher Kies.
