On Sunday afternoon May 5th at 3 p.m. in Johnson Theater of the UNH Paul Creative Arts Center on the Durham campus, the UNH Concert Choir, under the direction of David Ripley, will present “The Joy of Papa Haydn”. Haydn’s place in the establishment of the classical period of western music, encompassing Mozart, is monumental. The program focuses on the choral works of the beloved master, and includes Part I and the finale of his revered oratorio, The Creation. Outstanding student soloists will be featured. In the spirit of spring and much needed renewal there is perhaps no more joyous music. In addition, the concert will feature the premier of Professor Ripley’s arrangement of his own work, The Sleeping of a Child, for choir, soloists and harp, dedicated to the families of Newtown, Connecticut and the national effort to lessen gun violence in American society.
