Hanoi has a history stretching back nearly a thousand years. In 1010 Emperor Ly Thai To renamed the area Thang Long - 'Soaring Dragon'. As the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi is one of the main cultural centers of the country and is an attractive destination for tourists from around the world.
