Caught Up With Reality
The still life as subject provided opportunities for late 19th and 20th-century American artists to investigate their understanding of vision and perception as shifting and multi-faceted, or choosing objects as symbols to comment on cultural themes. Drawn from the museum’s collection, this exhibition examines ways in which artists explored realism as an illusionistic window as well as expressed contemporary ideas of constructing meaning in art.
