The UNH Law's Social Justice Institute, in collaboration with the Diversity Action Coalition, the National Lawyer's Guild Student Group, and the Law Students for Human Rights, are hosting this symposium. We hope you will be able to join us!

In 2008 the Hillsborough Superior Court imposed the death penalty on Michael Addison. If this sentence is carried out, it will be the first execution to take place in the state of New Hampshire since 1939.

The symposium will consist of two panel discussions with a half hour cocktail break between the sessions. You are welcome to attend one or both panels.

  • The first panel will run from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. and will address logistical and administrative issues. Panelists include Hon. Tina Nadeau, the Chief Justice of the NH Superior Court, Commissioner of Corrections William Wrenn, Attorney Chris Keating, the head of the NH Judicial Council, and former Attorney General Phil McLauglin.

  • The second panel will run from 5:30 -7:00 p.m. and will focus on social and political impacts the death penalty has on the New Hampshire community. The panel will include Attorney David Rothstein who represented Michael Addison at trial and continues to represent him in his appeals and Timothy Anderson, an individual who has served as a juror on a capital murder trial.

This event is open to the public and a number of state and local officials have also been invited to participate.

Attendance will provide a great opportunity to be a part of a larger discourse regarding this important and pertinent issue as well as provide an opportunity to speak with those outside of the law school community.

In order to facilitate a smooth discussion we are asking that questions be submitted in advance of the panels.

RSVP is appreciated but not required.

RSVPs and questions can be sent to Kerstin Cornell, kerstin.cornell@law.unh.edu.
